Tell your story
We’re looking for female bloggers from all corners of the world to join our community. If you have lessons or stories to share that can help other women succeed at business, life, charity, government, industry, NGO or in feasibly any area where your female outlook will particularly help other women then sign up.
We’ll provide you with coaching to use WordPress to upload your content, an audience to give you feedback and read your stories, awesome author promotion (promote your Twitter profile and/or your own website) and the ability to make new friends, contacts and learn from other women.
To get started, register for an account and then say hello by emailing us at open.windows@ed.ac.uk. We’ll upgrade your account to allow you to start writing blog articles immediately.
You can choose your own username to be displayed to the world, so you can choose to be anonymous or public and we let you write your own bio and link to your own website, twitter, facebook account etc
What should you write about?
The short answer is — anything that can help other women.
Here’s a fairly random list of possible topics that you can write about from a uniquely female perspective:
- Startups
- Entrepreneurship
- Networking
- Making new contacts
- Expanding your circles
- Identifying opportunities
- Getting investment
- Pregnancy
- Office behaviour
- Abuse
- Coming back to work from pregnancy
- Preparing for absence due to pregnancy
- Starting a business with friends
- Starting a business with other people
- Interviews
- Salary reviews
- Yearly assessments
A blog post is often easier to write and more interesting to read, if you get really specific and also share something of yourself in it. There’s a blizzard of general comment out there.
Readers are more likely to be interested in how personal experience has affected your life specifically, and how you overcame the challenges rather than more general advice type articles.

How to submint articles?
We use WordPress, the most popular blogging system in the world. It’s super easy to use.
Once your account has been upgraded, you’ll notice a “+ New” button at the top of every page. Hover over this and click “New Post”.
Now you’re in the WordPress article editor area. Articles are called ‘Posts’. All you need to do is choose a title, write your text, optionally include an image or two and click “Submit for Review”. (If you are adding images which are not your own, please be sure that their use meets the copyright owner’s requirements.)
